A lot has happened since last may.
First we are here at Scott Air Force Base. We got here on July 13th 2011. We lived in a city for a year called O Fallon and just recently moved on base a few weeks ago into our cute little duplex!
Home Sweet Home
We didn't tell a lot of friends and didn't tell any family but Sam and I were trying to conceive for a while. When we started having issues in April of 2011 I went and saw the doctor. She told me nothing was wrong and to give it more time. Well late summer/fall rolled around and we still hadn't had much luck. We were at our new base so I thought I would go see the specialist here. After a lot of appointments and some testing and ultrasounds she informed me I have PCOS. Which is Polycystic ovary syndrome. http://www.womenshealth.gov/publications/our-publications/fact-sheet/polycystic-ovary-syndrome.cfm
That's a link with information on it.
I remember the day she called me I was picking up a friend and her baby to come to my house to wait for my landlord to clean out our septic system and someone needed to be home and I worked.
I was driving and I got the news and started crying. I was so upset. I called off work and spent the day with my friend being bummed.
The doctor referred me to Barnes Jewish Hospital which has a branch that Specializes in fertility. I had to call and set up everything and they wanted me to come in and get a regular exam and then get a endoscopy. I made the appointment and looked into it. I didn't know at the time but it was minor surgery. I felt that was a little to much to immediately start off with. I called my doctor a few weeks later and told her I wasn't comfortable taking that large step so we decided that we would try some oral medication to stimulate ovulation and eggs and if that didn't work then the endoscopy was my next choice. The Appointment was set for January 19th for me to get my medication and discuss details.
Well flash back a month and Sam and I went home for Christmas. We spent about a week home and during our time there I notice some weird things happening.
I was thirsty SO thirsty all the time my gums were sticking to my lips. I was mean. I freaked out on Sam and started crying then started laughing like a total weirdo. I yelled at my mom BC she wouldn't stop and get me an Ice Capp from Tim Horton's and I made her turn around and get it (love you momma =] ) We had dinner at Sam's aunts house and i ate (no joke) 8 pieces of Italian bread with butter.
Well I went to visit a friend who had just had a baby and on my way home stopped and bought a pregnancy test from Giant Eagle. I hadn't had a period since late October which was normal for me BC of my PCOS.
When I got home that night everyone was asleep but I decided to take a test. I waited the 5 minutes then checked it and it was negative. I'm not sure why but I didn't throw it away and I kept it. When we woke up the next morning I looked at it and there was a line. I convinced myself it was an evap line which happen when you leave the pregnancy test for too long. I tossed it.
We drove back to Illinois that day. That night I wanted to test again so I did and same thing. negative. Went back in 30 minutes later there was a line. I called Sam in to look at it and he said he def thought there was a line, but again it was past the time limit. I took a picture and sent it to my friend and she said she saw the line too!
Sam and I had agreed I would test again in the morning and if there was a line he would go to Walgreen's and buy a good test and a digital one too. Of course I couldn't sleep that night and finally it was morning.
Dec 27th- I take the test and its NEGATIVE! what the heck! I leave it be and soak in my misery. I come back 30 minutes later and there is a line again a little darker than last nights.
Sam agrees to go to Walgreen's. He comes back with the test and we dip it and set it on the counter. We go out into the living room and Sam takes Kodi out to potty. We were supposed to wait 5 minutes but after about 2 I told Sam to come back inside BC i wanted to look at the test but i was scared. He comes inside and goes into the bathroom and picks up the test and I'm peeking around the door frame and he looks at it and says BABE YOU RE PREGNANT!!!! I jumped and screamed and we hugged and kissed and Sam said take the digital. I take the digital and sure enough it comes back pregnant!
We went immediately to the clinic on base to take a test there. It came back negative. She said it may be too early and to go get a blood sample drawn down stairs and she would call me in a few days with the results.
She calls me the next day and said the blood test was positive and it shows I'm about 3 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
I was on cloud 9. One of the best days of my life. Just to think we were supposed to start fertility medicine in three weeks and god blessed us with this baby!
We waited a few more days to call our family and tell them and of course EVERYONE freaked. We had our first ultrasound on Jan 24th. We were given a due date of September 7th.
I was able to see the little heart fluttering and little flicks of motion. Also an amazing day.
Sam and I had decided on a boys name and we were CONVINCED we were having a boy and swore off everything girl.
We decided to get a 4D ultrasound and find out the sex 4 weeks early.
Well what do you know were having a girl!!!!!!!! This ultrasound was absolutely amazing to see. I fell in love with her instantly!
Sam and I couldn't think of a name for almost a week after we had found out then Sam was online one night and said how about Lillian because we had Lily's at our wedding and its like she has been there all along. Of course I loved it and we agreed on Irene for a middle name after my mom.
The next big step was telling the family. We decided a surprise road trip to Ohio in early April. to show them the DVD we had gotten from the ultrasound place. Everyone was surprised to see us but even more surprised when told them we had another secret. We popped in the DVD and showed My family. Sam's Family. Sam's sisters family, and Sam's aunt and Uncle. My Mom and my sisters screamed!! They were so happy this is the first grand daughter on my side of the family. Sam's family were very excited for us too!
After the big news was revealed we stayed one night had to head back the next day to leave for our cruise to the Bahamas!!
In June we went home again for my baby shower. It was June 23rd and my sister Wren hosted it at her house and did an AMAZING job.
I found out on 07/09/12 that I have gestational diabetes. Its from pregnancy and usually goes away after giving birth. But I have to be on a strict diet and take my blood 4 times a day to measure the sugar.
We find out tomorrow whether I will need controlled diet, or oral medication, or have to inject myself with insulin. Were obviously just hoping for controlled diet!
I will update more possibly tomorrow after my doctors appointment!
