Lillys Birth Story!

SHES HERE!!

SHES HERE!!

This past week has been QUITE a whirlwind.

Friday August 24th  I was scheduled for a regular doctors appointment at 2:00. I got there on time and got pulled into the room at about 2:15ish the SSgt there is chatting up with me making small talk about all the pregnant people LOL

He takes me blood pressure and it was super high!

He takes it again and its even higher.

One more time and its still super high.

He looked at me said this is not good your blood pressure is being crazy. Which if you guys remember a few post back about my ER visit BC of my blood pressure.

My numbers at the doc. I asked to take a picture lol

I sat in the room for about 45 minutes and my doctor came in and had a look on her face.

I said bad day huh? thinking she had a crazy day

she said I have to admit you!

I panicked and said your inducing me?! She said no just admitting you for 24 hours for monitoring since your blood pressure is so high. She said I had to go over to the hospital right away. Luckily for me I had packed my hospital bag just to be safe!

So I'm getting a little scared I text Sam over and over and don't hear anything from him so I had to call the squadron phone. How embarrassing! I called and a young kid answered and I was like uhm.. uh.. is Senior Airman McCanna there??... and the kid was like uhhhhh........ then there was an awkward silence lol i was like this is his wife and its an emergency!

Sam got on the phone and I was like they are admitting me for 24 hours my blood pressure is really high and I have to go to the hospital. Sam was like WOW.. oh wow ok..wow uhm let me see if I can leave ok wow

it was cute lol

I get over to the hospital and they put me in a small room and hook me up to the blood pressure cuff and start taking my pressures. They all come back pretty normal. My nurse if says they continue to stay down I don't have to stay 24 hours and she will prob have me home by 7!

But first my labs have to come back normal.

Labs include urine and blood and an AFI (ultrasound to make sure fluid level is good)

My urine came back with high protein in it. Which is normal for people with high blood pressure. Its called Pre-eclampsia and I developed it severely in late pregnancy I guess.

I cant really remember how my blood work came back

An AFI normal result (from what I'm told) is 12-24 fluid measurement.

They said anything below 5 is emergency and they take baby right away usually by c section.

I got an AFI usually every Tuesday and my numbers have been consistently around 8 or 9 always.
They said that is borderline but for time being it was ok.

They came in to do my ultrasound and the resident was having trouble finding the pockets.

She got another doctor, Dr. Elnicky.

Dr. Elnicky is a Lt. Col. in the air force and knows her stuff! She is so sweet and kind and talks just above a whisper.

She came in and measured my fluid and her results were a 6.

That freaked me out!

That is so low and she could only find 3 pockets of fluid when there is supposed to be 4!

She told me she wanted to check my cervix to see how far dilated I was. HOLY COW did that hurt! It was SO painful I wanted to crawl up the bed backwards from her it hurt so bad. I may have also almost said a cussword too lol but to my credit I didn't!

I was only dilated a measly centimeter!! 50% effaced and soft.

She wanted to bring the "head honcho" in to verify the AFI and make sure she was right.

The head honcho is Dr. Robacker and let me tell you about this guy lol he was absolutely hilarious! He was an older guy and you can tell he knows what he is doing and has prob delivered thousands of babies. He would say the most off the wall things lol. He kept calling Lilly a He and  named "him" Alfonzo I kept telling him that she was a girl and he said "I'm sorry Alfonzonette" and he still did it every time lol.

anyways he was great to say the least. He came in and did the test again and he got the same result as Dr. Elnicky.

He sat down and got very serious with me and said that they want to take Lilly starting tonight that at this point she is better outside of my body than in. He said he wants to consult with some other people and they will be back but most likely "he will get his way BC he always does"  LOL

Sam being antsy waiting to hear back about whats going on.

Well a few minutes later Dr. Elnicky comes in by herself and said that everyone is in agreeance and they are going to induce me tonight, and Lilly will have her birthday Saturday or Sunday.

It was so exciting and like YAY I get to meet my baby but at the same time I got reallllly scared.

They tell me they are going to start me on a pill called cytotec and she said she has to tell me before she starts that there is a 3% chance that my uterus could rupture bc the contractions are so severe with the pill!

lol GREAT!

So they get me a real labor and delivery room thank goodness! The room I was in to begin with was a "extra" labor room and that thing was freaking tiny. I get to my new room and its nice and big! I get to meet my nurse Mindy (who I really came to love!)  I get an more blood drawn and an IV thank goodness she knew what she was doing bc the last experience i had with an IV at that hospital was horrific lol

They tell me they are going to put me on magnesium for my blood pressure. I have heard the most horrific things about magnesium. Everyone told me that it makes you feel like you are black out drunk. They told me I wasnt allowed to walk while on it. I got it in and luckily the only major side effect I had from it was heat but I was a little loopy.

I asked if I was allowed to eat bc I hadn't ate since about 11am that morning it was now about 8 and thankfully she said yes!

We got Margaritas Mexican food

Carne Asada for me!

After that we tried to get some rest

Lilly wasnt having it

She WOULD NOT for anything stay on the monitor. She would move off of it or I would have to readjust my position bc i couldn't sleep or I had to go potty. The poor nurse has to keep coming in and trying to find her and she was in a different spot what seemed like every time. I got MAYBE one hour of sleep.

Then there was shift change and they checked me at shift change too. I also forgot to mention I had in the mean time received another dose of the cytotec. They check me and I am 3cm dilated WHOO HOO

They leave me be as much as they can.

Dr Robacker comes in and says I have two choices.

I can
1. Start pitocin, let things progress naturally. If they dont progress in a normal safe time frame for Lilly than I will most likely get C section

2. Be aggressive. They  will start pitocin HIGH, break my water if my body doesn't respond to it than c section.

He said I had a 50% chance of getting a c section..which STINKS

I tell him I want to the the natural way he says ok, but remember you're allowed to change your mind.

After they leave I go to the bathroom and as soon as I sit down there is a huge gush of water. I tell the nurse i think that my water broke.  They come in and do a swab and determine that it wasnt amniotic fluid.

at 1 I go to the bathroom, come back and sit on the bed and there is a HUGE gush I stand up and there is NO doubt that its my water.

The nurse tells me now that my water has broken my contractions are going to start getting really strong and painful and she asked If I wanted the epidural.

Heres the thing

I WAS TERRIFIED!

I have heard the scariest things about epidurals and spinal headaches. I had a friend I drove back and fourth to the doctor multiple times because of her spinal headache and she seemed totally miserable. I'm also on baby center and people talk about the horrific side effects from it. I don't really care about going natural I just realllllllllllllllyyy dont want the headaches when I'm trying to take care of a new born.

I tell the doctor this and NO JOKE he has SO many people come in and tell me the pros and cons of the epi and the nurses are like "you should really get it we have a great anesthesiologist". I could tell they were being honest too. That they really wanted my experience to be comfortable.

I tell them I'll think about it and i lay back to relax.

My mom shows up at about 2 or so and my contractions start in full swing.

They were coming about 40 seconds every minute and they were SO strong I'm guessing bc of the cytotec.

These bad boys are in FULL SWING and my awesome hubs is by my side holding my hand and counting for me so I can get through them. They were painful but bearable. Then all of a sudden the pain in my back is INTENSE. I cannot even describe it. I felt like a semi was driving over my lower spine. I tell Sam I really don't want the epidural but this is horrific.  He tells me its my call on what I want to do. I decide to page the nurse and tell her I decided to get the epi. They check me and I'm 6cm dilated. I was thinking maybe it would take a little while to get the guy to come in.

Not even 2 minutes later he comes in the room and I start to have a mini panic attack bc I'm just so terrified  of the spinal head aches. kinda irrational I know.

He has me sit on the side of the bed and hunch over holding onto Sam. I start to cry and say I'm so scared I'm so scared. He tells me I will feel a poke in my back and a burning sensation for 15 seconds.

Poke

then burning lol

he flings something over my shoulder and starts putting tape everywhere and tells me to sit back and lay down.  I said were done?  He said "yep and there was no blood in the cath so you most likely wont get a headache"

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAAYAYAYAYAYA

well about 15 minutes after getting the epi I start to feel woozy. I ask the nurse for a wet wash cloth for my forehead. She gets it for me and places it on my head. I ask her to turn the fan on and she was typing on the computer and she says sure just a minute. I am kind of lethargic at this point and im like PLEASE TURN THE FAN ON!  She goes and turns it on (i felt bad) I tell her im going to throw up and feel sick she grabs a puke bucket and im like ughhh oooohhh ugghhh and then I start blacking out. I'm going in and out of it and my stomach was so empty instead of vomiting im like foaming. She runs out of the room and brings back the anesthesiologist he comes running in and injects something into me and literally within 2 minutes I feel 100% better. I asked the nurse what happened and she told me everything and she said that it is common for that to happen to patients who have high blood pressure and are on magnesium. She said my face lost all of its color. She said I was whiter than a sheet of paper. Scary but after i got the injection I felt perfectly fine.

Time to relax!!

To bad my brain was going a million miles an hour and I couldn't sleep bc I was so excited.

BUT my mom was able to!

Lillys LiLi waiting on her to arrive!

My Mom and Sam went to the cafeteria to get a cup of coffee and when they were gone the docs came in and checked me and lo and behold im 10 cm and ready to go!

I got very nervous all of a sudden and felt really sick. I told Sam that I thought I was going to throw up and to bring my bucket. He brings it over to me and I cant even roll over bc im numb. I tell him help me! help me! and he had to take me by the arm and ROLL me onto my side so i could get sick. Boy did I ever!

The doctors all 5 of them lol come in and confirm that I am and my awesome Doctor Chatman comes and she tells me we are going to do a few practice pushes so that I can learn to push.

Me pushing sams booty lol Dr. Chatman sitting on her leg. Dr. Robacker making sure shes doing it right lol and Dr Wendy observing.

I only pushed for half an hour then got the best gift in the entire world.

Small Update

There isn't to much news to report.

Ive been doing my twice weekly NST test at the hospital on Fridays and Tuesdays.

My fluid level is at a 9 now which is good considering it was at an 8 before.

They take the baby right away if its 5 and below. They always want to see it at at least 12 is what he told me.

So I'm in between.

I have a doctors appointment this coming Friday and we are doing the paper work to schedule my induction for the 31st of August.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How exciting. I cannot wait to meet my little princess.

As of today only 19 days left.

When I got my ultrasound the man said (to the intern) thats a biiiiiig baby.

I knew she was going to be huge anyways =]

I informed him that I will be induced on the 31st of August and he said he will be very surprised if I make it that far.

So I guess we will see.

I forgot to show everyone Lillians homecoming outfit too!

She is going to look cute as ever!!

thanks for reading ill update again friday!

What A Week

Wow what a week.

Im going to try to sum this up so its not a novel by the time I'm done.

We finally got out maternity pictures done!! YAY!

I blogged in my last post that I was going to wear my dress. Well when I got it on I just wasn't feeling it. I didn't feel "pretty" like how you are supposed to when you're getting maternity pictures done.

Sam took me to Motherhood Maternity. If you have ever been there you would know they have so-so maternity clothes for HUGE prices.

I found this beautiful cream lace shirt that fit me perfectly. The downside is its $40 and Ill only be pregnant for another 5 weeks. I couldn't justify Sam spending his money on that but he was insistent and thought it looked good on me too.

We bought it and as soon we got in the car I told Sam that we can wear it for pictures and take it back that same night. Sam surprisingly liked my clever idea!

I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with my hair. I knew I wanted to wear it down. I tried straightening it and it looked like a little boy so decided to leave it be and just put a braid on the side. Pretty plain but worked out well!

Sam of course looked darling in his polo. I took this little snap shot before we headed out the door.

He looks SO stinking cute in this picture!

We went to a place called Party City and got pink balloons. I cannot WAIT to get those pictures back and see how handsome he looks.

But we arrived at the park at 6:30 and it was still blazing hot!
The photographer was so sweet and kind and so was her friend that she had brought along with her.
She made me feel comfortable and at ease.
Anyone who knows me knows how self concious I am, but she made me feel like a million bucks!

The first pictures we took were in a tall grass field. She told Sam and I how to stand and pose and what to do with our hands. Which was awesome because everyone knows getting professional pictures done can sometimes be a little awkward if you're not comfortable posing *cough sam cough*

She was awesome and patient with him tho and told him exactly what he needed to do.

We've only seen three pictures so far from our session.
She said it would be about 2 weeks until we get the disc.

We took some of Sam and I in the field.
We took some of us in front of the grass.
Some of just Sam.
We got one of my laying on a log LOL which I can only imagine how awkward I look. I couldn't balance my big huge belly on it.
We took pictures of Sam sitting on a bench and I'm laying down with my head in his lap.
Something I'm really looking forward to is the clothes line we did with Lillians clothes.
We used her homecoming onezie.
A onezie my friend Ashley made me that has a jet on it.
The first onezie Sam ever bought her
and two others ones that were cute and plain.
After we had taken those pictures Sam had remembered a trail that he had saw once that let to a little forest opening.
We walked there and it was GORGEOUS!

beautiful greenery which is surprising since everything is so yellow and brown here!

That's the little path we walked in on.
I cant wait to see the rest of the pictures.

So after Maternity pictures, we went home and I took an ice cold shower and we relaxed in bed that night for hours listening to music and talking about Lilly.
It was an awesome day.

Here on base there is a Facebook group called MOMS and it stands for Meeting Other Mothers.
I have met so many wonderful people off of this page already.

One girl that lives here named Deidre set up a lunch at Olive Garden for the pregnant women to get together and talk about pregnant stuff!

I had such a great time meeting these other moms.
I had never met any of them before the luncheon that day.
We talked about EVERYTHING.
It was so nice to have people to relate to and talk about weird funny stuff that is happening to us.
The person who was furthest along was Brittany who was 35 weeks (due Sept 1 6 days before me!) and the person who was earliest in their pregnancy was 12 weeks.
We all had a lot to share and advice to give!
I gave Brittany a ride home after lunch and got to know her a little better and turns out she lives right around the corner from me! She is SUCH a sweet person. I can see us becoming good friends!

After I got home Sam and I wanted to go to the movies!

Guess what we saw??

What To Expect When You're Expecting!!!

I had heard mixed reviews about it but I loved it!

*SPOILER BELOW*

I cried when the girl lost her baby. It made me so sad. I remember that was my biggest fear when I was early in my pregnancy.

On our way home I notice that my hands start swelling and not a little swelling A LOT swelling
I started to get worried because this is not normal and I know its a sign of high blood pressure.

normal blood pressure is supposed to be 120/80

I had checked my blood pressure the day before and it was 134/109. I figured it was from walking around and being hot.

Well we stop at walgreens on our way home and the pharmacist takes me blood pressure and she gets a reading of 135/99.

She said that is dangerous and I need to go home and call my doctor. It was after hours so when I got home I called Labor and Delivery and told them my numbers and they said they want me to come in for monitoring to check it out.

We get there and they are doing a run down of my vitals and my blood pressure was 160/100 which is horrible!

They get me back to a room and start an IV.
While my IV is being done and she is taking blood the intake nurse comes to my other side and starts asking me questions and I'm distracted answering all of them. After all of the blood is drawn the lady asking my questions is all done and Sam was like "dont look down there is a lot of blood. You're going to freak"
well OF COURSE im going to look

I look and there is blood EVERYWHERE
All over the nurse, all over me, pooling in the hospital bed.
Holy Crap

Sam said while she was putting it in she like pulled the plug that keeps things from coming out and he said my blood started pouring out.

She asks if im ok to stand up and i stand up and she changes the sheets and sanitizes the bed and i get back in. The i notice my whole hand with the iv is covered in blood so she gets a wet down and cleans my hand off but it was still caked in my finger nails and the creases of my fingers. Completely gross!

this was after it was all cleaned up! You can still see the blood.

Since the whole line was filled with blood she had to do a saline rinse and the weirdest thing was i could taste it in my mouth! But it went away shortly.

So the rest of the visit is simple they  monitor my blood pressure which after the blood fiasco it was  157/142 but came down steadily after that.

They try FOREVER to find Lillys heartbeat on this stupid machine that had a doppler (no joke) the size of a pencil.

They cant find it so they have to have Labor and delivery nurse come in with a stomach doppler that gets strapped on.

Everythings fine with Lilly.

They come back in give me an ultrasound and check her fluid levels which are also fine.

She shows me Lillys ribs and how her chest was rising and falling bc she is practicing breathing!!

But im allowed to be discharged but have to do a 24 hour urine and antibiotics for a UTI.

Just an eeensy weensy amount of blood she missed cleaning my hand lol

The day after my ER visit I'm so drained and tired I spent basically the entire day in bed and just took it easy.

The next day (Friday August 3rd) I have to turn in my 24 hour urine and get a stress test done on Lilly and myself.

I arrive and they set me up on everything.

heart monitor for Lilly and a contraction monitor for me and a blood pressure cuff.

Lilly decides she doesnt want to be monitored and keeps squirming away from the monitor. EVERY TIME!

Then she starts kicking the monitor and its so funny bc Im laying there bare belly with these things on me and my belly looks like it was taken over by aliens and all you hear from the machine is the heart beat in the backround and WHOMP WHOMP from her kicking it.
So stubborn already.

Lilly passed with flying colors.

Me on the other hand did not.

My blood pressure was still high and they said my protein levels in my urine should have been at 300 but they were just slightly over that.
She said my UTI was very severe and I should have already started my antibiotics.

opps

I seriously have no pain or discomfort or anything so I had no clue.

But she said she is going to check with the doctors to see if its ok to discharge me or if i need to be admitted.

she comes back and tells me I can go home! YAY!

But I have to come to the hospital twice a week and get these exams done and they could admit me at any one of them.

Just relaxing with my monitors lol

Sam patiently waiting for me to get done. He wanted "room service"

So thats what I have been up to lately very crazy and at times kind of scary.

but we are all ok now.

Thankfully

I go back tuesday for another stress test and I hope all goes well with that also.

I will keep you all updated on my progress and whats happening!

Until then enjoy this cute picture!
